As you may know, I love haggling over bills. Well, “love” is a strong word. I should say, I don’t mind a little negotiating, and I sure as hell enjoy the regular, monthly discounts that come with it.
Ever since I realized how easy it is to pick up the phone and save money, I’ve been pretty hooked on haggling. So when Portland’s KATU asked me to give them some tips on how to negotiate your bills, I said: Sure. Just ask. Managing your money is like going to the dentist or standing in line at the DMV. Nobody wants to do it, but at some point, it’s inevitable: you need to clean your teeth, renew your license, and manage your money like a grown-up.
Very cool that you were on TV! And, what great advice! Mr. FW asked our internet provider last week if they could give us a lower rate and they said no because we already have the cheapest, most bare-bones package (just internet, no phone or cable). Oh well, at least we tried!

Exactly! I’d estimate that 75% percent of the time I’ve called and asked, I’ve been able to get a lower price.
