A few weeks ago, I was lucky enough to be a guest on Marketplace Weekend, where I chatted about two of my favorite topics: money and food.
As someone who writes about how to save money, I come across a lot of helpful, money saving grocery hacks. I talked to host Lizzie O’Leary about some of my favorites.
Check out the interview here. Or, listen at 42:00, using the player below. Actually, listen to the whole show; it’s hugely informative. And Joey Slamon’s money story made me cry.
Some of the resources mentioned in my interview:
• Supercook: I’ve talked about this website before, but to recap, it’s an incredibly useful tool for trying to make fun meals out of your leftover food items. Check it out!
• The Inverted Pyramid Method: I came across The Thriftiness Miss’s method for meal-planning a while back. Start with your largest meal, then work your way down, planning the next meal based on leftovers.
• The Backup Grocery List: A listener offered this tip, and my lil’ ol’ frugal heart skipped a beat because I do the same thing! I have a backup list of groceries, so when I’m too lazy to meal-plan, I can refer to the list, and I know I can make 4-5 good meals out of the ingredients.
But what if I don’t wanna cry?
🙂
I’ll listen to it when I get off work.
Ha! You might not cry. It’s a good story though!
Awesome job, Kristin!
Thanks Claire! It was fun 🙂
